Could it be a problem with your ISP's DNS service? Of
course you have do a DNS query for news too, but only to log
onto the server. After that, everything stays on the same
connection, so there are no further lookups.
Well, that's just a guess. But I agree with you that if
something was wrong with your hookup to the ISP, that should
affect everything.
Try doing a multiple ping to your default gateway when
things are running slow, and see what that looks like.
Well, I mean the default gateway when your router is not in
the picture.
ping -n 30 whatever your gateway IP number is
Or, you have something going on internally that affects your
browser and email client, but not your news client. Don't
know what that would be.
