Hi,

We're facing a wierd problem, in two of our scenarios:

1) Web Server with Windows 2000 and IIS. Sometimes the Internet NIC just
stops answering, with no message. The only sintoma is that the WebServer
Pages do not come up. To Bypass this problem we just disable and enable the
NIC.

2) The same problem, but in a SQL Server with NLB. The Dedicated IP just
stops answering, but the virtual IP is still online. Once again, disable and
enable the NIC bypass the problem.

Both scenarios use Win SP3, because we had some problems with Win SP4 and
MMC and/or SQL Server.

thanks in advance,

Make sure the Power Saver features of the Nics are turned off.. They should
be in the Nic's Advanced properties.

It isn't the NIC that has the option,...it is Windows. Right-click on
Network Places -->Properties. Right-click on the effected
Connection --->Properties. Click the Configure button under the Nic Name.
Select the Power Managenment Tab.

It may not solve the problem, but on a server I think this should be left
disabled anyway, I have never trusted any kind of "powersaver" feature to
wakeup when it is supposed to.

Thanks for your answer. I know that it is a feature from Windows. But it
only works, and the power saver option apeears, when the NIC is capable,
isn't?

Anyway, there is no power safe option or TAB in the NIC we face theproblem.

thanks again,

That could be. I've never seen a machine without it, but I guess your
doesn't.

I'm not sure what else the problem could be.
