Network goes "Poof"... :-)

One XP "host" and one laptop with Win98SE, D-Link Wireless Router and laptop
card.

Network works fine.... then there is no connection between the two
computers.
Signal strength is fine 'cuz we are only working a few feet away.
Internet from the laptop is fine, good signal, no dropouts.

Norton's Personal Firewall set for DHCP address range.

Any ideas?

I've had lots of problems getting file sharing to work through Norton
Personal Firewall. Disable NPF and see if things work. You don't
need it for protection from Internet hackers, because your wireless
router acts as an incoming firewall.

Sounds like you perhaps have a dhcp problem. Try assigning Static IP's to
each computer behind the router. Check the router for Primary and secondary
DNS and use those numbers in each machine. example. If your router dns is
205.132.42.5 Then assign an ip address to the first machine. 192.168.1.56
for example. subnet will likely be 255.255.255.0 then your dns. Assign the
same IP to the other machine changing only the last number by 1 so
192.168.1.57 and of course the same subnet and dns. This should allow you
to access both the internet and each machine with those assigned addresses.
Oh almost forgot make sure you use your routers IP address as your default
gateway.
