have a 98 machine.. can access the network no problem...
machine was loaded with any and every spyware possible.
removed all spyware..and even trojans on it.. reinstalled
win98 back over top... can do tracert to web sites.. and
np there.. can ping as well. open the browswer and it can
sit there all night looking for a website.. run netstat -r
and it comes up showing that it's trying to connect to
either unkown.level13.net or netblock.xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.net
and so fourth.. checked some of the sites and seems to be
either internetboost... or some type of spyware... any
help would be great on removing these or being able to
reset the browser back to start.. have done the remove
winsock..yadda yadda from registry and removed all network
and put back... FORMATTING is not an option with this
machine... Thanks for any help

How exactly did you find and remove the spyware and trojans? Sounds like
you missed something.

It still sounds as if you've missed something, and I don't think
reinstalling IE will do the trick. If the PC is still trying to connect to
an unknown host when you fire up IE then you haven't cleaned everything yet.

can't access anything online through windows to update
spybot... so stuck with the basic 1.2version. and yes I
know somethings in the the registry, just don't know
what.. is there somesite that lists what the network
setting should look like and IE settings in the registry?
that way I can reset them to what it should be.. then
hopefully.. maybe by chance.. IT WILL WORK.

Just use add/remove when you highlight IE and click remove a box will pop up
asking you if you want to remove or repair or cancel. Just choose repair.
