network drives drop unexpectedly

Thanks in advance for any help. Almost everyday on a large corporate
network, the network drives will drop.

The drives are mapped via vb login script. What happens is the entire
network (all network drives) at certain times will fail on transfers or any
exe's will terminate or lock up if run from the network.

Any idea why this could be happening?

Thanks again.

Ryan

Hello-
Our school network with Win2003 server SP 2 and XP professional clients, all
fully patched has the same issue. It make no difference if the network drives
are mapped via mandatory profiles, or mapped on individual office machines
where the user has local admin rights. A reboot always fixes the problem. It
seems to occur randomly, sometimes afters a few days, other times a hours
after a reboot. I tried KB 297684 without success, I have looked at KB 908370
(which seems to fit our symptoms) but it leaves me puzzled. Nothing shows in
the event logs and the server has no problem browsing out and seeing other
networked machines and shares when the problem occurs. I am vexed!
TIA,

Yes! That is exactly what is happening. I will try the first KB article. I
didn't find that one. Interestingly, this doesn't happen on all my 2003
networks. Just this one. It's very frustrating.

Hopefully someone can chime in here and help us both out. We do not have
file and print sharing on the network. Just on the servers. Sometimes, the
network drive will disappear yet if you try to remap it manually, it shows
in the list as being mapped. Even weirder still, the programs running off it
will still work. I don't think the issues with the mapped drive
disappearance bit is the same as the other issue because if you restart the
computer everything is fine and then you get kicked off again.

thanks for the help

Robert-
The page you referred to is for Vista. Are there any suggestions fo XP? All
of my machines have fixed IP addresses. Two servers, our SQL server and our
email server, never have this issue, our other two, both file servers (one is
a W2003 64bit data storage server) are plagued with this problem.

Thanks,
Scott

I have a similar problem however, it then escalates to preventing users from
logging into the domain when this happens they receive a message to the
effect there are no more connections available. The event viewer generally
shows error 5805 Net Logon(failed to authenticate) and 5723 Net Logon(no
trust account). I have searched for an answer and have not found one. What
I have been having to do is physically remove the computer from the domain
and then add it back. I would greatly appreciate any help.

I have similar problem with XP clients: sometimes map drives work,
sometimes they don't ... I tried to access necessary path using \
\serverName\<full path> and it worked until now. I agree, it is ugly,
but I do not find an answer.
