network driver modification

my application need to capture the network data link layer error and
faulty data under linux.for example, CRC errors,labber errors. i want
to realize it by modifing the NIC driver and linux kernel. but i don't
know whether it is applicable to make driver send the error state with
data to up layer? Any help would be appreciated.
