Network drive not reconnecting

I have a user who is running windows xp. Each day he comes in he has to map
one particular network drive everytime he logs on. He has 2 other network
drives that are mapped and appear each time he logs on, but for some reason
there is always that one that never reconnects at logon.

It worked when I checked the "reconnect at logon" box, rebooted several
times and logged in under his account; but when he leaves for the day and
comes back the next it does not reconnect.

He has a roaming profile on our Windows 2k3 network....I even tried
recreating his profile, but that didn't work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...Thanks.

Is the drive letter actually disappearing or is it just disconnecting?
Does he have a variety of removable drives installed? If he has lets say a
4-1 card reader, the card reader could be trying to take a drive letter over
that your trying to map.

Also check this article from MS:

Hope this helps,

It disappears each time he logs on. He doesn't have any removable drives.
He did use one once, but we let him borrow the jump drive and he returned it
to us...this was probably 3 weeks ago.

I haven't tried using a different letter...do you think that could be it?

I had one client that went through a simular issue. Their machine has built
in memory card slots on the computer and monitor. Every time the client
would log in they would loose their mapped drives. I would have to run the
batch file (which deleted the mapped drive then recreated it) each time he
relogged in. What resolved it was using Disk Management and moving those
drives to a different letter. Then his maps worked fine. You may want to try
that.

Also, Microsoft has a utility that some times kills network drives (by
accident). It's called Microsoft Find Fast. To uninstall the MS Office
version use Add/Remove programs and make sure in msconfig it is not
scheduled to be reloaded. To disable Windows built in versions use
Add/Remove Components and uncheck Indexing Service.

Although Find Fast is known to speed up searches when looking for a file, it
can cause problems with it removing network drives.

Hope this helps,

You say the mapped drive disappears each time that user logs on. You
may check if there are any logon scripts or group policies un-mapping
the drive. If you believe only this user has the problem on this
machine, ask him or her to log on to a different computer. Or ask
another user in the same user group to log on to this computer.

Just a thought
