Yup. I haven't tried this, but I imagine if the network is not
connected and a user has for example, "Z:\" in their PATH, then the user
may encounter a delay while the OS attempts to reconnect to the network
resource.

No drive letter is mapped. The authenticated connection is made and the
credentials are cached.
