Hi,

Our network: Win NT4 Server SP4 + 7 Win NT4 Wksts SP6a
connected to domain has been working correctly for years.
Just a few days ago we bought a new computer with Windows
XP Pro SP2.
We connected XP Pro to the domain and everything works OK
for some time (more or less a few hours) after starting the network.
Then connection with the computer with XP is not possible anymore
however the computer is still on the list of computers in the network.
It happens unexpectedly without any alert nor other information.
What's more, the other computers are not visible from the XP.
The rest of the network (computers with WinNT) work still correctly.

Does anyone know what to do?
Please help.

Regards,
EZ

Thanks for your reply.

> check any errors in the event viewer.

The Event Viewer says that there are 1 warning and 1 error every time
we start/restart the XP machine. Both are connected with NtpClient.
I don't know whether it can be a reason of our problem.

> Also make sure you have correct WINS settings.

We have never set any WINS or DNS. We haven't set it when we had
the network containing only NT computers and we haven't set it after
connecting the XP machine to the network.
I didn't know it's necessary. Is it?

> Computer Browser

Computer Bowser is running. I'm not convinced thet I should stop it.

It seems that the problem appears after trying to copy anything to or from
the XP machine. Today the connection was cut after copying 4.42 GB
from 5 NT machines to the XP machine (as a test). When we restarted
the XP machine and repeated the test it was cut after 643 MB (we were
trying to copy the same files).
The connection hasn't been cut (yet) when we burn/copy any files from
the NT computers via the network using the DVD+-/RW on the XP machine.

EZ

Hi,

I changed the cable connecting the XP computer with the HUB today.
The network works OK and copying to and from the XP machine
doesn't drop off the network, at least for the time being. :-)

EZ
