Here is my situation. I have a Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack 1.
This server is also running Exchange. This was the Standard Version of
Exchange and it was later upgraded to the Enterprise Version. It is now
running SP2 for Exchange. I do not think it is an exchange issue but I could
be wrong.
My problem is that several times during the day I will loose connectivity to
this server. This means that I am unable to ping the IP Address. This seems
to happen to the Workstations in the office but not from other servers. At
least if I RDP to a Domain Controller I can still ping the Mail Server from
the DC even though I am not able to ping from the workstation.
I have reviewed the event logs on the Mail server as well as other servers
and there is nothing there that points to a problem. I have reviewed the
Event Logs on the workstation and there are no errors that point to an error
there as well. It just seems to be a loss of connectivity.
In regards to DNS, it is configured properly because my IP addresses are
resolving properly. And I am trying to ping with the IP address directly as
well. I took the time to do an ipconfig /flushdns, nbtstat -R, and even an
arp -d * and nothing seems to bring the connectivity back immediately. All I
can do is wait for the server to repsond on its own.
I am just not sure of what I can look at next to determine why connectivity
just stops and then starts again because I am not seeing any errors anywhere
to tell me where to look. I would appreciate any assistance anyone can
provide.
