Hi,

I have a network configuration consisting of an ADSL modem and a 3com
router. What I would like to do is set up a wireless office about 50metres
from my house(router). I have a cable to the office, but would like to have
the pc's connected wireless. Can I connect a second router to this and get
good results, or perhaps just an accesspoint to share the network? What is
the difference between a router and accesspoint?

Thanks for all and any help,

Regards,
SC

An AP is a bridge device that bridges two networks together. In your case,
you would plug the a WAP into a LAN port of the router so that wireless
computers can use the gateway router to access the Internet and share
resources with other wireless machines and wire machines connected to the
gateway router.

A gateway wire/wireless AP router has the bridging already built into it.
And of course, the router acts as a FW by separating two networks with two
network interfaces the network it's protecting from the Internet (WAN) and
the private network it is protecting the LAN and may have other FW like
features that an AP doesn't have in it. Routers can also be used to
segragate the LAN with two or more routers being connected together.
