I'm setting up a network for a local non-profit. Although it is a
windows network, I want to use linux at it's core to handle things like
proxy/caching, samba etc. I also need need remote access to
troubleshoot the windows desktops. There are 10-20 windows desktops. I
basically want to use the following setup. Let me know if it is
logical.

(windows clients)-----------|
|
|
|------(linksys
wrt-54g)------internet
|
|
(linux server)-----------------|

Yes, if I read your line wrapping correctly!

Everything is attached on the internal LAN. The only point is doubling of
network traffic as data goes from a local machine, to the linux box, back
out on the LAN and to the router. As it's highly unlikely your maximum
internet connection speed is anywhere near your LAN speed though you should
be fine.

If you want remote access to the Windows machines (via RDP I assume) then
you'll need to forward one port to each machine's 3389 port. If you're using
MSN remote control I'm not sure what you need.

HTH,

Dave.
