Network card having trouble connecting

Hi;

I have an old Dell Dimension with an integrated 10/100 NIC that has
worked fine for years. I pulled a Dell Broadcom Gigabit NIC card from
another machine, where it had been working fine, and added it to the
Dell system.

I have tried both the Dell and the Broadcom drivers. In both cases,
for the first minute or so the status of the card keeps changing from
trying to connect to connected, and then back to trying. It
occasionally says connected at 1g for half a second, then goes back to
trying.

It eventually connects at 100m. This is using a net cable & switch
port that connects fine at 1g to another computer.

So, the card works in another machine, the network cable and switch
work fine. The Windows properties say there are no problems.

I have tried with the onboard NIC both enabled and disabled in
Windows. No difference with that.

Any ideas?

thanks - dave

You could try changing the NIC speed settings to 1g full duplex mode. I
could be in auto mode and may not ba able to negotiate with the switc
the maximum speed. For changing nic speed got t
NIC->Properties->configure->advanced-> speed and duplex change thi
setting to 1G full duplex

Regards,
Anis
