I've posted this message in win2k networking, but thought this forum might
be more appropriate.
I'm running win2K pro, cable modem is a Toshiba PCX2000.
This setup has been running fine for close to a year up until now.
For some reason my computer has recently lost the ability to "see" my cable
modem via ethernet. My service provider says they can see the modem on line
and that it has acquired an IP. My computer - through IPCONFIG, does not
show an IP. (I already purchased a new Belken ethernet cable to eliminate
that as a possibility)
I have installed usb drivers for my modem and have gotten back on line
that way, but I still have the LAN icon in the system tray saying "network
cable unplugged". Any ideas?
FWIW - My computer has always had a problem when I try to put it in standby
mode, so I've stopped doing that. However, for some unknown reason I tried
it again recently, and had to manually power down/restart to get it out. The
ethernet problem seems to have coincided with that. Not sure if that has
anything to do with my problem or not, but thought it may be relevant.
