Windows XP displays that message when it senses that its Ethernet
adapter has lost its connection with the router. I don't know why
that would only happen when the Win98 PC is turned on. Downloading
and installing the latest driver programs for the Ethernet adapters in
those two computers might help. So might going into the XP adapter's
properties and disabling any setting that lets it turn off the adapter
to save power.
