I recently connected an Inspiron 600m via wireless access point to my
router. Both AP (WAP11b) and router (BEFSR41) are Linksys. I now have two
desktops (XP and WIN98) wired to the router in addition to the wireless
laptop. All share a broadband cable. Before hooking up the wireless
connection, the two desktops could share information over the network. Now,
although the wireless connection works fine, the two desktops no can no
longer "see" each other. When I click on "network neighborhood" on one of
the desktops, it can't locate the network. On the laptop, there are two
network icons in the system tray. The one for wireless is enabled; the other
for LAN says "network cable unplugged." How can I get all three computers to
share files?

Thanks,
Mike

To remove the cable unplugged, just select the Local Area Connect in
Network Connections and disable it.

For the others, from a command prompt type: ipconfig /all. Review the
IP addresses. They should all be of the form 192.168X.xyz., the gateway
should all be 192.168.X.1, the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

If this is not the case the shut down all computers. Power cycle the
modem and router, leaving the modem off for a minute. Repower the router
when the modem has booted completely. Then bring up all the computers.
[You might do this first, then ipconfig /all second, it makes more
sense, actually].

If the problem persists, and ipconfig returns IPs of any kind not of the
form above, then post the results of the ipconfig.

install netbios and set each machine to access the internet by itself. Then
setup your sharing, works for me with a similar setup. One other thing, you
may have to use the original xp disk to put the drivers needed to do this in
win98 machine.
