Anita,
Windows XP (you didn't mention XP Home or XP Professional) should
already be configured with what you need. Assuming you are talking
about sharing files, you just need to share the folders on the WinXP
system that you want accessible from the Mac.
Mac OS X (again, you didn't mention what version of the Mac OS you were
running) generally provides built-in support for Windows-based
networks. You can use the "Connect to Server" command to connect to
the folder you just shared on the WinXP system.
