Has anyone here ever had a home network that never gives them problems? I have
a desktop running Windows 98 and a laptop running Windows XP. I am using a
Belkin router and a cable connection. First off, every once in a while, and it
seems like every day now, when I start up either computer I cannot connect to
the internet. Only after i unplug ang plug back in the router does it work. So
is something wrong with my router or is this normal?
Secondly and the thing that is really frustrating me. I'm trying to share files
from the desktop to my laptop. For about a month it would seem that every two
weeks my shortcut to my shared mywebs folder that I would access through
Microsoft Frontpage would come up and say that the shortcut could not be found,
forcing me to re-create it. Yesterday it happened again so I deleted it from
the "My Network Places" folder. This apparently is not a good idea because if
you reset the sharing folder on the desktop it won't reappear on the laptop my
network places folder. So then I ran the create shortcut wizard and went
through that. But now it takes forever to open any file in the mywebs folder on
the desktop from the laptop. And when I go to save a file I get an error
telling me the mywebs folder on the desktop is busy and there is a server
error. But this doesn't happen with any other folder. Just this one.
I've tried re-creating the folder, cutting and pasting everything inside into
another folder. Still won't work. There are alot of files in the folder, but I
don't know if that is the problem because it worked for like a month although
the first file took forever to load. The folder is about 20MB the most. So like
I said I don't think it's too big but with Frontpage I guess you never know.
If anyone knows what i'm talking about please give me some suggestions.
Thanks, Tom
