Network Analysis and monitoring?

Hello,

I need to check out a network to see if there are any issues and to see what
the network traffic is like (not just on the server but across the entire
subnet). It is a switched network - subnet. I'd like to see all traffic
on the network but it is a mish mash of network switches - not one brand -
not all snmp able. Is there software or a hardware tool that will let me
do all of this?

I realize this is an MS newsgroup but I figure you might have the experience
I could draw from.

Thanks

All that type of stuff is expensive.
Here is one example from Solarwinds that you can use as a starting point for
comparison with others.
http://www.solarwinds.net/products/t.../engineer.aspx

But that only covers what you can do with software on a PC. There are Hardware
Devices like the ones made from Fluke that cover a whole other area of "stuff"
and these cost anywhere from $400-$500 to several thousand dollars for a
Hardware Tools the is no bigger than the palm of your hand.

Most "true" networking problems happen at the Physical Layer and that is where
the Fluke Tools fit in.

Hi Mike,

Netmon 3.0 from Microsoft is a free download. But its only going to see your
traffic (and various broadcast items on your subnet).

So fwiw, have a nice day.
