Network adapter slows system significantly

I have a user that has a notebook system with a PCCard 10/100 NIC. When he
plugs that system in to his home DSL (a router/firewall) it works fine.

When he brings it to the office and plugs it into our Linksys Wireless Lan
router (direct plug into machine) the Win98 network slows to a virtual
standstill. A reboot is required at this point to get any responsiveness
back.

IP Addresses all checkout if I am patient enough to check ipconfig /all.
Just the system seems to crap out.

I thought maybe the NIC driver? I will get the brand of the nic card.
Could it be the wire between the Linksys and the NIC? I am not a network
expert but...

Cheers
