Network adapter doesn't show up under winipcfg

I'm running Win98SE. We just got Qwest/MSN DSL, which
worked fine. When I installed a router, Win98 wouldn't
release/renew the IP addresses (even after restart). The
other (XP Pro) system attached to the router gets an IP
address just fine. Suddenly, the ethernet adapter
disappeared completely from the drop down menu on
winipcfg, and I have no way of getting an IP address (no
internet or network access).

I've tried removing/reinstalling the ethernet adapter and
TCP/IP protocols with no luck. Can anyone help me?
