Hi,

I am about to install a Netgear WGR614.

I definitively do not want the "admin/password" combination.

At installation, do I use "admin/password" and change it later? If so
how do I change it?

Or do I use my own when I install?

I could not find any information in the documentation or on the web.

Thank you.

Fanchon

Go to 192.168.0.1 and login with admin/password. In there you can change
the password. For the full reference manual visit

I don't know if you can have blank admin and password on Netgear / WGR614
because mine was utter cr*p and I returned it (neither the software or
hardware worked).
BUT you can do it on some routers and if you do anyone can discover your IP
then logon to YOUR router
and change things to their hearts content...
Regards,
Martin

Actually the Netgear AP you speak of is one of the highest quality
made...Most times the more advanced products are harder to understand and
then slammed in NewsGroups by people who just flat don't understand how to
configure higher end more (Options Type Equipment)

It amazes me that the normal user's could even get the cheaper stuff
(Linksys) running...Oh well I guess everyone can't understand how things
work.

You are jumping to conclusions ! I happen to be computer professional with
decades of experience,
it took me 10 mins to set up the replacement Draytek modem/router/wifi.
(and that has got more features then Netgear)
But Netgear software would not load, then wouldn't un-install, their support
is in India, Ahmed just reads
the same inadequate instructions I had, emails go unanswered.
In the end it turned out the hardware was duff too and they asked me to
return it.
If you read the posts here and other groups most of the complaints are about
Netgear and firmware updates.
One vendor is now warning people not to attempt to upgrade the firmware on
the brand new DG834,
as it is almost guaranteed to stop it working. Why does a brand new kit need
an upgrade and if so why doesn't it work ? It's not that Netgear haven't got
enough experience with firmware updates !
Having wasted days with Netgear I will never go anywhere near one again !
Regards,
Martin
