If you are running a web proxy blocking pop-ups and scripts (eg: AdSubtract,
Zone Alarm or its rebranded derivatives, etc) on the system you're trying to
use to reach your router (or modem, for that matter) disable that application,
or direct your browser to bypass the proxy temporarily.
As for switching out one router for a new one, many (most? all?) broadband
isps require you to register the MAC address [of the new router] before you
can use it...
