Netgear WGR614 and SMC 2662W Compatibility

I have just installed a Netgear WGR614 router and have
a SMC 2662W USB adapter. We have a compatibility problem.

When the router is put in "g and b" mode the SMC 2662W
will not connect. When it is put in "b only" mode it
connects just fine.

I have some SpeedStream SS1021 PC Cards which work
fine when the router is in either mode.

Neither company has been able to suggest a solution,
in fact both companies deny a problem.

Can anyone confirm this problem or suggest any solution?
