Netgear WG511 WEP problem (shared key)

I have a Netgear WG511 Wireless PCcard (Firmware 1.00.01.00 and Driver
1.0.14.47) and a AccessPoint Netgear WG602 (firmware ver. 1.5.67).

The setup was running perfectly (with 128bit WEP Shared key) until I
installed the new firmware/driver for the WG511 PCCard (Firmware 1.00.01.00
and Driver 1.0.14.47).

Now the PCCard can't connect to the accesspoint -even though the network is
shown
in "Site Survey" and the keys are correct. I use "shared key".

When I switch off WEP (on both the AP and PCcard) or use the "open system"
option on the WG602 - the card connects OK.

Does anyone have a clue -what is wrong?
I've tried to contact the support at Netgear, but they didn't answer :-(

Best regards,
Peter

I have this *exact* same problem. Email to netgear went nowhere.
I have called Netgear support twice. They basically ran me through
the stuff that I had already tried.

Put the key in again.
Type the key in manually, no passphrase.
Reset the access point.
Reload the access point firmware.
Etc.

Check the MAC displayed for the AP on the WG511 config screen
when you enable WEP on the WG511.
On mine, the 1st 3 bytes are the same, next 3 change.
What's up with that?

Reloading old WG511 firmware from the CD makes the problem
go away. Reloaded new firmware from the web site.
Problem comes back. I don't think the support guy heard me.

On the laptop with the WG511 I have win2k sp1. I have been
thinking about sp4. I was too scared.

Please post if you get more info.
Hello, Netgear? Are you listening?

Dan

This warning wasn't there when I downloaded. There is now a
version 1.6, with the same warning. I'll try it.

Seems very strange they'd release a new driver with a known
problem on XP. I wonder what they're loading on new cards?

My card has a "V2.0" printed on it, so I'm assuming that it
doesn't qualify for "except WG511v3".

I've now installed the 1.6 version -works like a charm on my W2K laptop
(with WEP and shared key).
