Netgear routers consistently bad

I'm sure someone's going to tell me they love Netgear routers and they've
always worked fine, But.....
This is the third time I've bought a Netgear wireless router, such as the
MR814, and I can't reach the setup through the 192.168.0.1 consistently. I
have tried literally for an hour and can connect one minute and then it
becomes unreachable. I even isolated it completely with just the PC and the
router connected. It's insane. I can ping it, wait 10 seconds and then it
becomes unreachable. The last one had a different IP address than in the
manual, 192.168.1.1 , which is what most of the linksys routers use. Then I
grab a Dlink and bang, first try, everything sets up perfectly.
No I didn't upgrade the firmware, as I couldn't even get the router to run.
One I got to a point where it was sending a wireless signal and I thought I
was done and then it stopped working.
Save the sarcasm, and give me some feedback here. Did we get a bad batch
here in Portland OR??
Thanks

Without having anything truly productive to say, I would suggest finding the
recessed "reset" button (hopefully there is one) and trying again.

Good luck,
Steve

I know there are people that swear by Netgear, but I've had nothing but
trouble with them. Their routing table is pathetically small, and my MR814
reboots itself on a regular basis. The really are not meant for more then
the casual home AOL user and internet browser. You could not give me a
Netgear router. My advice - throw it in the trash and get a Linksys WRT54G.
