Could someone answer a couple of questions please; I am new to wireless
networking (actually networking) but have the wireless network at home
running between my desktop and laptop.

Is there a way to transfer files from one pc to the other. I can't seem to
see one pc from the other; do I use windows explorer?

How do I disconnet from the internet cable? Do I have to physically turn
the router off? (Hope not)

The router and card are Netgear 11g.

Thanhs

if you don't understand networking and cant manage this
then try running an FTP server on one pc and use the get command to transfer
the file(s) from 1 pc to another

Setting up a network is easier than setting up an FTP server

Run the XP networking wizard on both machines. It's a piece of cake.
File transfers are easy that way. And fast too with a G connection.
You don't use Explorer and you don't disconnect from cable. Both can access
the Internet at the same time as well as "see" each other and transfer files
from folders that have been "shared"

You never "disconnect" from the Internet with a cable modem/router.
It's "always on" and always available. That's the basis for broadband
internet. You can always power down the modem. Almost no one does.

To share files on your network, you must deliberately select a drive or
folder on the computer, right click and select sharing and check the
appropriate boxes. Your network computers show up in Windows Explorer
by selecting My Network Places and choosing View Workgroup computers
(among other places). Scoll down to the bottom of Folder View in
Explorer also.
