Netgear reducing noise margin

I have a Netgear DG834 router V2. Yesterday I upgraded the firmware to
3.01.25. The noise margin improved as below

As you can see it improved from 13 to 18. But by the end of the day this
had dropped to 11. It is switched off overnight and a while after
restarting today I notice that it is still at 11. I rebooted the router
from the interface and it went back to 18. It has now dropped back to 15
and presumably will continue to drop. Rebooting will again reset to
17/18. This in not causing apparent connection problems but I am puzzled
as to why this is happening.

Any ideas please

Its a common thing with the DG834. The noise margin comes down over a
period of time. Someone once said it worked out an average over a period
of time. I don't know anymore about it, but it has been seen with several
units I have fitted in the past year or so.

I think someone contacted netgear about this and they said it was an average
too. So the best time to look for the correct noise margin is after the
router has been running for some time (a few days), or certainly several
hours after switch on.

There are several possibles, including progressive electrolytic action while
the phone is off hook and periodic bursts of noise (e.g from your central
heating or fridge starting). The latter will drag the margin down over
time, although performance will be OK except when the spike of noise occurs.
