Netgear PS110 not staying on network

I am having trouble trying to configure a PS110 print
server to a newly upgraded network.

The print server worked fine on the previous network
which was running Windows NT 4.0 (SP6) SBS server with 7
clients running Win98, NT 4.0, and Win XP.

The network has been upgraded to a new server running
Windows 2003 Server, and the clients have remained the
same.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of the
Netgear print server software.

The IP address of the printer server is currently set to
DHCP, assigned by the Win 2k3 server.

It has an Epson LQ-680 (LQ-500 driver) and a Kyocera Mita
FS-1000+ printer attached.

I am able to add the printers to the Win 2K3 server and
also able to print to them. The problem I am having is
that the print server keeps dropping off the network in a
seemingly random fashion and the clients are unable to
print.

When this occurs and I try to access one of the print
server applications I get an error message: Network busy
or device not found.

Any advice? I have also sent a similar query to Netgear.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,

The print server is getting a DHCP Address from the Server 2003 machine? Is this a client reservation or does the address change. I would highly
recoment establishing a client reservation for this print server to hand out the same IP Address each time.

If you have questions about setting up a reservation, please go to the DHCP MMC and then choose helpand tyep "Reservation"

I am not to farmilar with the NetGear Print Server software, but you can test basic TCP/IP Printing to the server. Determine the IP Address of the print
server currently and then creat a new printer on the server or client and point them to the TCP/IP Address of the server. Can they print with this
mechanism???

Also you can test basic IP connectivity to the system with ping to the IP Address of the print server. Let's see if is it up!

Thank you for your advice. I have already attempted an
address reservation and also to change the IP address of
the print server to a static one, but neither has worked.

Since posting my original query I have also tested the
print server with the Kyocera printer with our own
network which has an almost identical structure (i.e
Windows 2003 server with a mixed O/S client base) and the
print server and printer worked flawlessly. I have also
tested the server with a direct connection to the clients
switch to rule out some sought of cable fault. It still
failed.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,

What if you plug the print server into the network and then install the print server software on a Windows client system. Can you print to the printer then. I
am not convinced that this is a networking issue, this may come down to a strictly printing issue that may be better served in a differnt forum???

If the print server is getting an IP Address and you can ping that system. I would test printing to the IP Address of the print server directly unless the
system prevents this type of connection.
