All of a sudden, wireless functionality on my MR814 has ceased to
function! Wired connections work fine.

Router: MR814 v1
Wireless Cards: Netgear MA401
Operating Systems: XP Pro, 2000 Pro
Computers: 2 Dell Latitudes
Firmware: Version 4.13

Router has worked perfectly since installation in Jan 2003. Suddenly,
wireless connection to two laptops stopped working. Connection via
ethernet cable works fine.

Does anyone have the same problem? Any suggestions? Please help as my
wife is busting my ass on this!!!!!

My guess is it has something to do with Windows Update. I did not
apply the advanced networking upgrade, but do install all critical
updates.

Thanks,
Dolf

I had this happend a couple of times and since I knew it wasn't the wireless
card/adapter in the laptop I fiddled around with the router settings, etc.
Finally, I gave up and just unplugged the router (MR814) and plugged it back
in. I have no idea why that works, but thus far it has. I have a
MR814v2...if that makes any difference.

I updated mine (MR814-v1) with 4.13 firmware from 4.11 and it quited
working in 5 minutes. Now, It is back to 4.11 and it works perfectly
as before.

I reported this problem to Netgear yesterday.

Cheers,
Dennis.

same problem with the MR814v2. The wireless connection with my Sony
Vaio Z1LP (centrino model) stops suddenly, and won't start again. By
unplugging the router and plugging it back in, I can restore the
wireless connection but the same things happen repeatedly. For about
one day in full, I tried to solve this problem, but I coudn't.

Thank you for your help in advance.

It would be interesting to learn what systems are being connected. My
XPpro laptop reaches my DSL internet connection perfectly through the
wireless router connecting to my desktop Win98se. However, neither can
"see" files or printer connections on the other. Have a suspicion that
XP will only connect with another XP. Thought I might upgrade the
desktop to 2000 or ME - but would hate to do that and find that only an
XP upgrade would serve!!

PS from Molin Vardo - Try following location:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;307162
Seems to be a well-known Microsoft problem!! - Would be nice if the
Router manufacturers would provide this info in advance.

I have two Win98SE machines and one XP Home laptop. I share filkes and a
printer attached to one of the 98 machines all the time. I don't know why
you can't do it, but I know it can be done.

Try disabling the WinXP firewall for a start.

Marc

Very recently, Netgear posted a new firmware 5.021, in which they fix
the wireless connection problem with centrino model PC. Go to
www.netgear.com and get it and upgrade your MR814v2.

It worked perfectly for me.
Cheers.
