I have an MR814V1 (not the newer one) with which I connect to a
Verizon commercial line. I have no connection problems with a variety
of Windows and Linux boxes, either hard line or wireless, except every
once in awhile the router will freeze and I'll lose all connectivity.
My internet connection does not require a login, and if I bypass the
router and connect a machine directly to the DSL modem, I can verify
that the internet connection works. The problem seems to be in the
router itself.
I have been running firmware 4.13 when experiencing the hangs. Today
I tried 4.14 RC4 on the off chance that they fixed something in the
meantime. The router appears functional -- now to wait it out and see
if further hangs take place.
Incidentally, the Netgear website lists a release date of December 11
2003 for 4.14 release candidate 4; does this mean they've stopped
development on this router? If so, and I have to buy a new router
anyway, methinks I'll switch to Linksys...
