Never used a router before, computer is an i430vx motherboard type.

What i would like to know is, even though i will be using an ASDL BT
phone line - not cable, would it be possible to use the netgear MR814
as i have already been given an ethernet modem to access broadband.
From what i have been able to make out, the difference between the 2
models above is that the MR814 does not have an inbuilt modem.

As i do not need the modem, would it be possible for me to use the
external modem i have and get the MR814 which would save me about £70

I will only be using the router for internet access - not file sharing
so any other options/comments welcome.

thanks
George

Am not familiar with the MR814 but if your description is accurate this will
work.

Just set your ADSL modem/router to forward all traffic to the MR814 which
would handle the networking.

For future reference, you may find the following useful:

uk.telecom.broadband
uk.comp.home-networking
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ (especially its forums)

Regards
Sunil

George,

I have a ADSL connection BT line ISP Plus.net, and I use a FM114P
(DSL modem, wireless access point, print server...) connected to a
DM602 ADSL modem and it works fine. If you get stuck give Netgear
support a call (they operate 24/7).

Don't believe all you hear about Netgear support, I've used them twice
and both times they came up with the goods in a reasonable time.

Regards

nemoPS FM114P & DM602 both Netgear
