Netgear MR314 problem

Hi,

I'm a newbie here.
I did a search but didn't find the
exact issue addressed.

I have a Netgear MR314 router that
I've used without problems with my
cable modem for about a year now.

Last week I started trying to use
the wireless access. All my machines as Windows 2000.
I'm using Proxim/dynalink WLC010 cards with Belkin adapters.

My problem is that the signal is extremely weak and intermittent.
Only if the machine is in the same room as the router
is any sort of signal picked up. And even then it varies
by the second. One second it is 100%, next its disconnected
then it is 10%, etc. This is even when they router and card
are within 10' and in line of sight.

Is my router kaput or is there some other solution.

In frustration.

Theo

Try updating the drivers for your NIC and the router firmware. My mr314 and
wpc11 NIC gives me excellent signal anywhere in the house and very good
signal in the back yard. I never have any disconnects.

Just figured out what is wrong.

When I went to get the drivers for the Belkin
turns out it is a Belkin F5D6000 which will only support
the F5D6020 PCMCIA card. AAAARGHHHHHHH!!!!!

Obviously the Proxim will not work.
Time to visit Wal Mart.

I also have the MR 314 Router and the Netgear PC card MA 401.

I can see on both the desktop and the laptop the Internet and Mail. Can send
and receive mail, but I cannot see from the desktop the Laptop and vice
versa.

Priner and Folder sharing is enabled.

Using WINXP on both machines.

Signal strength is decent.

BTW I see on the desktop (which is connected to the router) no NETGEAR in
the Network configuration, only 1394 and Local LAN connections.

The CD of the MR 314 has no install or setup on it.

What am I doing wrong?

I see them just fine.

While I don't have a laptop
let me run out the usual suspects.

1. Disable static IP and let your routers DHCP provide IP's.

2. Provide the same name to the Work groups on both machines.

3. See if you can ping from machine to machine.
