Netgear MA401b

I am trying to test out a Netgear MA 401 wireless b card and shut off my
internal card to isolate the problem I've been having with wireless freezes,
but I'm having trouble getting a connection. The wireless card shows itself
active and is visible in device manager, but the Network control panel shows
"Network cable unplugged" which makes no sense. And scanning devices in the
Netgear panel shows no local wireless connections. My local wireless is a
Linksys WAP54G access point set to hexidecimal. I also tried to set up a
fresh network connection for it, but it can't get past FlashDevice
Authentication. I choose the other option and it will not proceed.

Any ideas?
