Netgear ma401 not detected on start OK on insert

I have Netgear MA401 PCMCIA wireless pc card on old '97 laptop. Windows ME.

Installed OK & Download latest, think same & lastest firmware I think.

Will not detect card on start or re-start if the card is already inserted.

Finds it OK if I insert in any of my PCMCIA slots after ME has started.

Is more of a problem that perhaps seems because some installation, sepc.
networking wizards etc. re-start windows & can't find the card so installion
fails.

Any ideas.
