Netgear MA111 on XP

Am having trouble setting up the MA111 Wireless USB Adapter on XP.

Installed the software from the CD as instructed without the adapter
in the USB port. Once installed I put the adapter in the USB port, XP
detects the new hardware but cannot detect the driver.

Have tried pointing the troubleshooter at the CD to find the driver
etc. Download the latest drivers from Netgear but nothing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using the USB extension cable check it is correctly plugged into
the MA111 Adapter.
I have had a similar problem as the cable was out 3-4 mm

Thanks Mike. Wasn't using the extension cable but will look out for
that in the future. Netgear reckon the adapter is probably faulty so
it's going back to dabs.com. If the next one doesn't work I'll ditch
it and get the MA521 PC Card instead.

The instructions for this adapter (which I'm using with XP) say that you
should not use XP to configure your adapter. I'm assuming that you can find
the adapter under network adapters in hardware device manager in XP if you
plug in the adapter. You should then be able to click on the wireless
network connection icon in "view network connections" (under mycomputer,
then mynetworkplaces) and uncheck under the wireless networks tab "use
windows to configure my wireless network settings."
Then, plug in the MA111 and go to all programs and open the MA111 adapter
utility to configure. That places the netgear adapter icon on your systray
and you click on that to open the dialog; I just go to the "configuration"
tab and click on "restore default" button then on "apply" and my adapter
works. I haven't found any way around this last part, which I do whenever I
plug in the adapter. You will see the light blinking on the adapter after
you plug it in and then you can put the dialog icon on the systray and go
from there....
hope this helps.

Thanks nuttin. Unfortunately I can't get the adapter to show up in the
Network Adapters section of Device Manager. When I insert the adapter I get
the usual "Found New Hardware - USB Device" followed by the wizard to locate
the driver. However, regardless of where I direct the wizard to, it refuses
to install the hardware.
