Netgear - Increase Signal Strength??

Hi everyone,

I bought the Netgear MR814 (802.11.b) and am happy with it. However, I would
like to get coverage outside on my patio. Is there anyway to increase the
Netgear's signal strength? I've seen homemade and commercial antennas but I
don't think the Netgear antenna comes off, therefore I cannot attach more
powerful antennas.

I found this antenna but the inventor uses a Linksys. Will it work with the
Netgear?

Any ideas (besides buying a wireless router with a detachable antenna)?

Thanks!
Jeff

Yes, it will work for *any* device with the dipole and working in the
2.4GHz frequency range. You could use it with your cordless phone too.

Ok..thanks! So it will work, but when I read the directions, it sounds like
it "refocuses" the radio waves. So if I attach that antenna booster and
point it to out to my patio, does that mean I cannot get a signal from my
dinning room (which would be behind the router)?

I just want to make sure that I still get reception everywhere I get
reception now, I just want to extend the range.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Jeff

That's the basic idea. You can't get something from nothing. It's just
like a reflector behind a light bulb, it gets dark behind.

Try locating the AP in a different place, that can make a huge
difference even by moving it just the other side of a wall.

Thanks for the help. I'll need to get the materials and build this thing.
Have you built one? Technically inept here as far as radio waves. Any
"gotchas!" I should watch out for?

Thanks again!

I couldn't form a proper parabolic reflector.
The EZ-10 was easy to build. The hardest part was getting the printout the
right size for the template. It doesn't "scale". The size that it's
supposed to be is the only correct size.

I used the box from a PC power supply. A cereal box seemed a little flimsy.

I did but mine was somewhat over engineered!!
