Netgear HE102 and broadcast packets

Found an unusual problem on an XP laptop today connected with a WAB501
a/b PCMCIA card to a Netgear HE102 802.11a AP. First, there are no
NTP broadcast packets getting to the wireless NIC (found this by
accident when trying to debug #2. You know how picky kerberos is with
time). and second XP is going all ape s--- thinking it should be a
master browser, not being able to find a domian controller, trying to
weasel itself the DOMAIN:1d name and generally being bitchy. My
suspscion is that no broadcast packets are getting thru, particulary
in the lan>wireless direction. Anyone know why this would be? Thought
AP's were pretty much bridges. I haven't looked thru the serial port
on this AP to see if there's a setting, but I doubt it. It was pretty
useless last time I was in there.

I haven't had time to sniff anything, but I thought maybe someone else
might have issues with broadcast, perhaps even with other brands of
APs.

Also. Why hasn't the firmware on this thing been updated since well
over a year ago?? 1.3e 1/10/02. It can't be that perfect!!! >:|

Found this on a review/opinion site...

Using the HE102 with multiple laptops using netgears WEB501 dual band
cards. Speed has been impressive. The setup is not documented very
well for someone adding to a full wired network which I was, ie. in
order to remote admin the AP you have to be in the subnet or make your
routing correct, initially, which won't happen at many companies such
as ours. Finally, I noticed the laptops were not browsing correctly
with the wired side. I had to run network traces on multiple laptops
and workstations to prove that UDP broadcast messages are being
CORRUPTED by the AP. As a result, this setup is totally unacceptable
in our environment. My own software which uses UDP broadcasts will not
work. After multiple calls for tech support, I am still waiting for a
response. They did a great job answering the phone but are still
really slow on sending the problem to the correct level of support.. I
sent them email with complete network traces showing the issue. The
only comination I have not tested is using a different wireless card
in the laptops, unfortunately I only have one model for all our
hardware.

grrrr...

Turned on WINS and it helped a few of the problems with netbios. For
chrissakes I haven't run WINS in years. What a joke. I sense ebay in
the future....
