yeah I'm having a devil of a time getting the vpn to work. made the
call to paid tech-support ($30) and talked to John: the 1 guy working
that day in VPN group and he couldn't get it to work either! (He had
full control too since I opened the FWG114P up for remote
administration and he has his own VPN endpoint to test it) Since it
was Friday afternoon nobody was around to escalate to. (i.e.
unpublished beta firmware) Ticket is still open.
Meanwhile, the CD manual (awesome documentation 280 pages I printed
the 50 pages on vpn configuring) says they used firmware ver 2.2 to
configure the vpn. The box comes w/ver. 1 (which doesn't do WPA) and
I flashed it to 2.10 from Netgear's support site. (but with 2.1 we
couldn't make the vpn work.) But firmware 2.2 used in documentation
evidently doesn't exist! (unpublished on their site) Anyways I just
recently found a 'secret' firmware ver 2.3 at
http://htff.co.uk/netgear/
so I'll try that next. (but I'm leary of that cuz the Euro countries
don't use all the 802.11x channels so firmware may omit these) I
haven't messed with any other features yet. I just got it. Also it
may be defective but since I ordered 2 I'll find out when the 2nd gets
here. I found the prosafe client crap I needed on kazaa (if it works
I'll buy it). But in a pinch you supposedly can make your own VPN
endpoint in Windows: I found a howto .pdf somewhere for the fvs318
which has been around longer, (is upto firmware 6.X but no wireless)
but all the VPN menus and settings are the same.

I hope this helps folks.
Also John's advice:- when configuring Prosafe client keep hitting
"save icon" when finished at each screen of config tree. also- after
upgrading firmware on the router: "default" it by holding in little
reset buttton for 15 seconds. (you will lose your settings so flash
firmware then default it first before putting your settings)
