hello

im having a few problems with the netgear dm602

all has been working fine for a while, until today when i unplugged the
modem to arrange some wires on the back of my computer

switched it back on and its gone weird.

its been working with the wgt624 108 wireless router, i unplugged it and
tried directly. the dm602 when powered on says its connected to the computer
then disconnects (via ethernet) within 5 seconds. with usb its not found at
all. it makes no attempt to connect to the net and wont even reset by
holding down the reset button for 10 seconds.

any ideas?

A couple of points spring to mind. I seem to think you have to press
the reset button three times to reset. The other point isn't relevant
now I think about it!
How is the IP addressing sorted out? DHCP, static. Which bit does
what?
I think you may need to power them up in the right order.

cheers for the tip, going to plug in and try now

is there any idea how long the presses are for? 3 short ones or 3 10 second
ones?

when its turned on the power light comes on, ethernet light flashes then
turns off then the internet light comes on solid (whether the adsl cable is
in or not) at the point the ethernet light goes out the modem disconects
from any computer plugged into it

i am getting a replacement through netgear anyway but its going to take up
to 5 days to come.... so i had to go out and get the dg834 but thats rather
overkill considering its going to be plugged into the wireless router anyway

im currently connecting directly to the 602, tried another computer, tried
another cable but no joy... dhcp was on and still should be as far as im
aware but as i cant get in im not sure if it still is

phone support was no good, as the wrong advice i was given just prooved

Go to ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/Re...ual_DM602B.pdf
for a full rundown of troubleshooting.
As for resetting press the reset button 3 times quickly. The test LED
lights for about 10 seconds than the modem will reboot.
After that go Start=>Run type 'command' press enter.
Type ipconfig /release and press enter.
When the command line comes back, this may take a little while, type
ipconfig /renew then press enter.
type ipconfig /all and make sure the IP address is in the range that
the modem gives out, (by default this 192.168.0.???)
If it still doesn't do 'owt let us know.

thanks for your replies

still no luck though, the router isnt restarting, nothing happens when i
press the reset three times, im sure im pressing the button in because i can
feel it click

i pressed it when it booted quickly and this stopped the internet light
coming back on but nothing else, returns back to the usual when i re-power
it

looks as if its losing its ethernet connection somehow. the release renew
thing just stated that it cant do it when the thing is disconnected, at
startup when it is connected for the few seconds it reports that a file
cannot be found

im guessing it actually is a dead unit, after a month of working simply
unplugging it duffed it up

It's been known. Have you done anything to the PC that could have
mucked up the ADSL\networking settings. If so try a system restore to
a point before that.

One would thought you would have learn the lesson to keep well away from
Netgear.
I did, DM602 as it happens, dead as a dodo and the software wouldn't load or
uninstall,
no useful support..
I bought Draytek Vigor 2600We, on line in 10mins, hasn't missed a bit since
May.
Regards,
Martin
