I like dlink I have been using their nic's, hardwire router and now a dlink
624 g with a 2 dlink wireless 650 pcmcia cards with no problems. I replaced
one of the 530tx+ nic cards but that is it. on the wireless I use wep
encryption. I live in the country and feel that wep is enough for me.

netgear
dlink
smc
linksys
hawking
us robotics
belkin

NONE of the above !
Best for office use: Orinoco or Cisco.
Best router for domestic / office use is Draytek Vigor 2600We or 2600G.

Wouldn't touch Netgear, be wary of Belkin.
Less problems reported with the rest of your list.
Regards,
Martin

Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but I'm surprised to see US
Robotics so near the bottom of anybody's list. My Courier "V-Everything"
dial-up modem has worked flawlessly for many years, it's been
flash-upgraded several times and has been easy to set up in DOS, in every
version of Windows I've used, and in Linux. Therefore when I had to find
an all-in-one wireless ADSL box to set up for someone else, and I wanted
something cheaper than the Draytek (which would have been my ideal
choice) I had no hesitation in choosing a US Robotics one (the 9106), and
it too has been easy to set up and has been working well for several
weeks now.

And why Belkin? My own setup has a separate wireless unit because it was
added later, but I bought a Belkin one because it was available and it
was cheap, and although it looks a bit odd it works just fine.

Netgear as "best" is the real surprise. I have no direct experience of
their ADSL products, but just reading the relevant newsgroups and
counting the number of times the various brands are mentioned in
connection with problems would steer me away from this one.

Rod.

I owned a linksys router/WAP for several years. Never had any problems.

I have an assortment of netgear products now. Happy with the units. Lots
of features my linksys didn't have. BUT...consider them unsupported. If
you have problems you're on your own. If I had it to over I probably
wouldn't buy all this netgear stuff if I could find similar features
elsewhere.

My two cents as a home user. I've bought Netgear stuff both for my home
and parents and never had any serious problems. Bought 2 wired routers
and one wireless, 4 ethernet-to-powerline bridges, 2 home PNA to ether
bridges, a usb wireless card, a lap wireless plug in. My kids friends
sometimes bring laptops over and have never had trouble either plugging
directly to router or using the wireless 802.11b.
