I recently installed a DG834G II, at my sisters home. She agreed to allow
me to access the router remotely to allow adjustments to be made by myself.
Just recently I have been trying to add a couple of new settings, but the
pages inside the router menu fail to load and dispaly, This page cannot be
displayed, instead of the expected pages. Does nayone know why this is
going on? Is it a case that I wont be able to make adjustments after all?
The firmware is 1.05.00. I have tried connecting both via its DynDNS name,
and direct to the IP address of the router. Both give the same results. : (

Thanks in advance.
John

What exactly are those same results? Do you get the pop-up with the two
keys on the keyring, the name "NETGEAR DG834G" and giving the Username of
"admin" already filled in and asking for a Password?

Before you can gain remote access you must use LAN access to set "Turn
Remote Management On" and "Allow Remote Access By:" to Everyone. I also
choose obscure Port Numbers just to avoid needlessly attracting vandals.

I can send you some ip addresses where you can see what it should look
like, albeit not their passwords to complete the logins!

BTW, once you get remote access you will be able to help your sister with
everything from updating the firmware to setting port forwarding rules.

Good luck.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Yes I am well past all the login stage... Its when I try adding a new
wireless client etc to the system that things start to go wrong.

For example, from inside the remote menu (from her router), I click 'LAN IP
Setup' and then click ADD, I get 'This page cannot be displayed' (standard
web browser message, when a page can't be found). This makes it impossible
to add her sons new laptop to the list. Im lost, I don't know why its doing
it. I just need to add a new user to the system and it fails. I have tried
directly to her IP address, and using the DynDNS name to access the router,
I have also tried with different web browsers, as I thought that might be
the issue, but no....

Any ideas Tony?

Thanks
John

Okay, I thought you could not log in.

Sorry but I have never wanted to use that feature so I never even tried it
and don't know whether it works. There certainly are plenty of bugs in
the DG834G firmware. Can't you get the exact same result just by setting
the son's laptop to a fixed IP?

Its not just that pecific menu that doesn't work Tony. I basically cannot
access any control of the router, non of the sub-pages of the menu's will
load. Its a weird one don't you think?

Even a reboot from the other side has done no good either. It seems that I
cannot do anything remotely with it, aprt from look at the menus. Not a lot
of use really.

I suspect this is a browser issue because remote access does work. Maybe
flush any caches before trying again.

Well I'm not so sure it is browser related now, as Ive tried it using three
different computers. All have the same problem.

Looks like I'm gonna have to get my sister to try and do it herself
afterall..... Unless someone has a really good idea!

Thanks Tony

John
