Hello

Can anyone please help?
I've just purchased a Netgear DG824M Wireless modem kit.
A friend of mine who is a so called "expert" tried to set it up for me.
After scratching his head for a while he said i needed to contact BT for my
username and password, now anyone who has ever tried to speak to anyone at
BT will know it can be very stressful. After numereous attempts i was told i
don't need a username and password!!!!
I thought i'd have a go at setting it up myself.
The main problem i'm coming across is that the ADSL link light just keeps
flashing amber, and it should be solid green. After checking the
troubleshooting section of the CD it doesn't really cover this problem. It
just says:
1 "Check to make sure all the wires are connected correctly" I've done this,
and everything looks fine
2 "Your phone line might not be DSL activated yet" I know this is not the
case as I've been using the line to access the net with the BT Voyager modem
supplied by BT.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would say i'm fairly computer literate, but this is all a bit much for
me!!! Help!

Thanks in advance.

Apparently, you don't need a userid or password for BTBroadband - its
all done by magic.

There's a review here with setup instructions
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/hardware...ear-dg824m.asp

It says "Configuring the DG824M is a walk in the park, and is about as
simple as it can be made. The quick set-up guide does assume you have
your computer's network card already installed and expecting to obtain
its IP address from a DHCP server. If this is the case, the process
simply involves connecting all the leads as shown in the set-up guide
and then switching on the router. The ADSL activity LED will change to
solid green once the ADSL link has established."

Hmmm - so does your line still work with the Voyager?

Yep, the voyager modem is working fine. I'm using it right now.
It just seems that the netgear router doesn't pick up my dsl line.
I've tried reseting it to it's factory defaults, disconnecting and
reconnecting it. I've even used different filters for the phone line
thinking it could be a dodgy filter. But nothing.
I have to say looking at the setup guide it all does look like a doddle to
install, it's just I can't get round this phone line problem. Do you think
it could be a faulty router?

Thanks

Silly question really, have you disconnected the Voyager from the line?

Not really a silly question, I remember a friend of mine phoning me up when
I was down the pub, and he was having problems with his printer.
I went through everything with him, making sure it was all connected
properly and that he'd set it all up correctly. It turned out he didn't have
any paper in the tray!!! I didn't even think about asking him whether there
was paper in there, as it seemed obvious!

But in answer to your question, yeah, that is disconnected.
