Netgear DG824M Losing Connection

Hi all,

Has anyone else got a DG824M and been having problems with the wireless part
of it?

I got mine a fortnight ago and already the wireless has stopped completely
on two occasions for long periods of time. It was shipped with firmware
version 1.3 and after reading the notes on their website I upgraded it to
1.4 (5).
After the upgrade I've still been having a few problems. I read a review on
the box and it does say that the router does sometimes suffer from lock ups.

Has anyone else had this issue before I send it back as faulty?

Thanks

Hi Neil

I use the DG824M
I also read about the "lockups" but not encountered tham as yet....

Not had any problems, apart from the NTP side (more a problem for Netgear
that was!!!) updated my firmware and is a good choice for a router IMO..

Could your other device be at fault?
What do you use to connect to the DG? What distances are involved? can you
check signals/noise levels at the point to where you are? could it be
something to do with interference?

If I use "netStumbler" with my D-Link card, I get the "Network Unavailable"
sometimes.. then moments later it comes back.. This is not the router but
the d-link pcmcia card, and maybe something to do with the programe i use,
as when not using NetStumbler all is OK.

Try Phoning tech support, see what they say, they are not too bad at it, in
my experence (was for another product call)

Regards
Alan

Thanks for the response Alan. I'm pretty sure it's not the card/s. I have an
MA521 PCMCIA adaptor in the laptop and an MA301 PCI adaptor in my PC
upstairs. The access point works great most of the time and the signal I get
on the laptop is excellent (because I only sit about 10 feet away from the
axs point.

However about once every 3 days the wireless light goes out on the DG824M
and the signal disappears completely on both cards. If I power the axs point
off for a while (more than 10 minutes, less than this doesn't work) it will
come back. It's not heat I don't think.

I'm a bit unsure what to do because I have the RMA in from the company I
bought it from so I can send it back but if I get another and it's the same,
it's a waster episode

Very important info given.....

"However about once every 3 days the wireless light goes out on the DG824M
and the signal disappears completely on both cards"
end quote

The wireless indicator for the transmition of "RF" signals is the LED (like
a lolly pop) if that goes out...you guessed it...so does your WiFi..

Defo a fault of the unit..... send it back from where it came!!!

I have never had that happen to me...(yet) I must admit though, the unit
DOES get quite hot..

I like the security features of the DG and the ease of setting it up.. A
good working order DG824M in my opinion is a very good buy...

However, they have updated the unit to 54g..look out for that one if you
have the option to get your money back. As for a few quid more you get:

DG834G

Thanks again Alan.
The router's been ok for the last couple of days but I've got the rma from
Dabs so if it acts up again I'll send it back. Good luck with your
networking!
