I've a problem getting the range to my laptop across the length of my
home (low signal strength) and am considering installing an ANT2405
antenna.

Do I need a cable and/or adapters?

My 824M is located on the first floor at the front of my home, and I
need access on the ground level at the back.

Any other advice would be appreciated, especially suppliers here in the
UK.

No, you need to move the router!

Seriously, this is the main problem with combined devices, you end up
with the thing in one corner of the house and it don't work at the
other.

Try relocating it or adding a reflector for next to nothing before you
go spending money.

www.freeantennas.com

If that doens't work, there's still plenty you can do before spending
money on commercial antennas

David.

Just to tell you how I got on.

I constructed a parabolic reflector as described in the link you gave,
but the results after much playing around were very disappointing.

I began to suspect that my problem was down to the unbranded PC card
that had been supplied (free) with the DG824M. I ordered and installed a
Linksys WUSB11 - and it's magic :-)

I now get signal strength of Good or better throughout my house,
conservatory and garden (60 yards long). And that's without the
parabolic reflector.

I chose the WUSB11 because (a) it had a fold-up aerial which gave me the
option of using a parabolic reflector on that (if needed) and (b) the
USB feed allows me position the unit a little distance from my PC
(further if I use a hub), and (c) the unit has a wall mount which is
easy to fit and move.

Again, thanks for you interest.
