I've added an optionaln name to a server w2003r2 and to a win xp pro sp2.
In either cases i can browse them through the lan, but not from themselfs.
For example, when i go on the w2003 and i try to browse it's own shares
throught \\Alias2k3 it continues asking me the user name and password as if
i inserted them incorrectly.
Anyone can help me? Thanks in advance
Agostino

Hello,

How did you add that name ? just a dns alias ?
You may have to disable strict name checking if it's a dns one.

Connecting to SMB share on a Windows 2000-based computer
or a Windows Server 2003-based computer may not work with an alias name

It works on a different machine but it does not when trying to map to a
share on server where the share is set up using the same dns alias.

When I tried it prompt for a credential even though I am already login on
the server with a valid credential. However, I could map to the same share
using the server name.

Any suggestion?

Thx,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I had the same problem as you describe.
The fix was just to uninstall the latest MS SMB patch kb957097 (MS08-068)

Regards,
Anthony.
