bob1 is an XP host (192.168.0.2) that I use as a print server. My
notebook (192.168.1.2) is connected to this network via a wireless
router. NetBIOS broadcasts are blocked by the router so I added the
following line to the LMHOSTS file, which preloads the name cache so
the notebook knows how to reach the print server:
192.168.0.2 bob1 #PRE

My wife has a Macintosh notebook with working wireless network
connectivity except that I don't know how to set it up to access the
print server. OS X is based on unix and supports "Windows Printing".
How is NetBIOS names resolution handled in linux? Is this SMB? Is
there anything equivalent to the Windows lmhosts file?
