NETBIOS/DNS Alias - Redirection needed...

I'm getting ready to rebuild an NT4 server named "A" to a W2K server named "B". Many of my users have drive mappings to shares on "A" which will be broken after the rebuild. I would like to know if there is some effective way to alias the old server name "A" to the new server "B". Users need to be able to open "\\A\sharename" after the rebuild.

FYI - I have attempted the registry edit:

HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\LanmanServer\Parameterson\OptionalNames

on a W2K test server combined with a DNS alias pointing "A" to "B", but without success. All clients are XP and the W2K servers are AD integrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do not use "OptionalNames" it is not supported and in your case will not
work. Instead you should follow the steps in this article:
