How are the clients getting their IP configurations? Can you post an
ipconfig /all of one that does work, and from a PC that doesn't?
Is WINS being used?
Is there a GPO set controlling security settings on the PCs that are having
the problem?
Firewall GPO or local firewall being used?
AV or antispyware being used?
How were the PCs deployed? Were the ones that work deployed differently than
the ones that do not? Ghost, Sysprepped, or vendor pre-installed?
Any errors in the Event logs of the PCs that do not work?
When a user logged on to a PC that doesn;t work, and logs on to a PC that
does work, still work, or doesn't work?
Does \\school.local work from a Run command on all machines?
Keep in mind, the school.local is actually the LdapIpAddress that each and
every DC registers into DNS. This record is used for GPO, DFS and other AD
functions.
This records is automatically registered by the netlogon service (one of
AD's many services) on each DC.
The record looks like:
school.local
(same as parent) A DC1'sIPAddress
(same as parent) A DC2'sIpAddress
etc
