Hi!

If I have 2 subnets (A. 192.168.1.0 and B. 192.168.2.0)

I can ping computers from A to B but I canīt browse in windows network. From
all computers in A I need to use shared resources in B (at least for a
week). But I canīt map a network drive between subnets unless I use lmhosts.
Canīt it be solved any other way?

Tommy

If there is no server, map directly using IP instead of NetBIOS names.

On a single subnet, name resolution can work using broadcasts. But
broadcasts do not cross routers. So name resolution by broadcast fails
across routers.

You can use lmhosts (for netbios names) or hosts (for DNS style names).
If you want to automate it, you need a WINS server (for Netbios names) or a
DNS server.

Normally I would use \\servername\sharename to map a network drive but if I
use \\servername.companyname.com\sharename would that work between subnets?

Only if a DNS server somewhere (or a host file) can translate
server.companyname.com to the IP address of the machine in the other subnet.
